Red Cat Biplane Flights' base is at Pukaki Airport on the main tourist route between Christchurch and Queenstown. It is just north of Twizel and only a few kilometres south of the turnoff to Aoraki Mount Cook. It is perfectly located to explore some of New Zealand's most outstanding landscapes - many of which were used in the Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit movies. Our main flying season is from the beginning of September until the end of April. During winter we fly on an irregular basis.

Option 1 - Mackenzie Magic

Our Mackenzie Magic flight packs in a lot! After departing Pukaki Airport, we head up to the stunning turquoise waters of Lake Pukaki. This is New Zealand's most popular location to photograph Aoraki Mount Cook! From there, we follow the Pukaki Canal to the Ohau A Power Station before returning to Pukaki Airport via the Lake Ruataniwha Rowing Course and Twizel township. Flight time is approximately 20 minutes. Allow 35-45 minutes for the whole experience. Price per person is only $245.00*

Option 2 - Three Lakes

Our classic flight! On this 50 minute experience (with a 25 minute flight) you fly over Lake Ruataniwha, Lake Ohau and Lake Middleton. During the flight you will visit the Ohau A Power Station and the largest of the filming locations in the Lord of The Rings movies - Pelanor Field. This option gives you more time in the air to soak in the incredible views. Price per person is just NZ$345.00*

On the Three Lakes option, we fly at 500 feet above ground level so you get the best view.

On this one hour ten minute experience (with a 45 minute flight) you get to follow the waters draining from Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki as they make their way to Benmore Dam and the sea. The return trip is via Omarama and the west side of the 6300 foot high Mount Benmore, as well as Lake Ruataniwha. Ask about our free extra option where we land at Omarama for lunch or afternoon tea! Price per person is NZ$545.00*

Option 5 - Wild Wilderness

This is one of the best wilderness flights available in New Zealand. We go where no other scenic flight operator does - the spectacular Ahuriri Conservation Area! Highlights include flying up the beautiful Ahuriri Valley, above the Mt Barth Glacier and returning via the turquoise waters of Lake Ohau. Flight time is 55 minutes. Allow one hour twenty minutes for the whole experience. Price per person is $645.00*

Option 6 - Alpine Adventure

In our opinion, this is the ultimate New Zealand adventure and arguably the best glacier flight in Aoraki Mt Cook National Park! Penny Morris, a client from Australia, described this flight as "The best of the best 10 things to do in the world!". Weather conditions permitting, we fly you to the upper Tasman Glacier, New Zealand's longest. Our normal route then takes you to the Grand Plateau at 9000 feet and over the Hooker Glacier before returning to Pukaki Airport along the east side of Lake Pukaki. To do this, even in summer, you will need warm clothing. We provide leather jackets, helmets, gloves and blankets for your legs. Flight time return is over one hour. Allow an hour and a half for the whole experience. Price per person is NZ$745.00*
